Who can do what on this site?

The Public (anyone and everyone)

Whomever visits the IAACS site can - by default - read all the pageson the IAACS site. However, certain pages may be blocked, notably those pages requiring administrative access.

Participants (those who have created an IAACS account)

Participants are those people who have created an account on the site. Anyone is welcome to create an account on the IAACS site. You do not have to be an IAACS member to create an account.

Every person who has created an account on the IAACS site can WRITE on any of the existing pages with the exception of the following pages:

  • Certain “official” pages - the IAACS mission, constitution, member list, and official announcements (these are made by executive members).
  • All "system" pages (help pages, for example)

The writing and editing options for a page - as well as additional options – ONLY appear when a participant has LOGGED IN. Writing and Edition options occur on the upper right hand section of each wiki page. Again, the options to both write and edit on any given page ONLY appear if a participant has LOGGED IN.

As a general rule : static pages (such as information pages for members) can be READ by everyone who visits the site. (This includes pages that participants have created.) Wiki pages are typically open to be READ by EVERYONE. However, only participants can WRITE on existing pages or CREATE NEW PAGES.

Special groupings

It is possible to create special user groups within the IAACS site. (These groups can only be formed via IAACS administrators.) These groups have additional administrative powers. For example, the group could choose to (de)limit who reads, writes and comments on their pages.

Administrators

Administrators can do anything and everything. They can block users and completely destroy all traces of a page and its comments. Hence, the number of administrators is extremely limited and the quality of their competencies is verified.

Several particularly interesting IAACS wiki aspects

1. MoinMoin Software

Two main reasons to use MoinMoin engine: Security (ACL) and Python.

Read this to know more about those two topics.

2. The PleaseThankYou Option

When one has logged on to the IAACS site the PleaseThankYou link appears at the very upper right hand corner of each page (on the same line as Logout). It is a very original idea by JacquesDaignault to facilitate - if not incite - collaboration.1 So, please make USE of this extremely innovative collaboration device.
On behalf of all participants THANK YOU, in advance, Jacques not only for this PleaseThankYou idea but for ALL your work for IAACS! (If you agree why not add a comment on Feedback's page?)

-- Thank You Renee for your support and great spirit in this journey: IAACS is still alive because of your energy and commitment! JacquesDaignault -- Well, who do you think inspires me???? :-)
